I got to know guitar legend Merle Travis while dating his daughter Merlene in the mid 70’s.
Merle influenced thousands of guitar players including the great Chet Akins with his unique finger picking (“Travis Pick”). I had the good fortune to play bass with just me and Merle one afternoon in Merlene’s living room which to me was like playing in front of 50,000 people. I felt really privileged to be at the Country Music Awards when Merle was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
